Lots is happening in the library. Here's just a quick list of what has been going on in the month of January. **Lesson topics** --Kindergarten recognizing fiction vs non fiction books --First Grade getting familiar with elements of poetry and exploring Gigglepoetry.com --Second Grade understanding the importance of the Caldecott Medal and reviewing Jaguar Journeys reading program --Third Grade reviewing character traits and using them to describe the main character in Snowflake Bentley --Fourth Grade introduction to Six Flags reading program and learning about upcoming author visit with Vuthy Kuon --Fifth Grade understanding the difference between paraphrasing and plagiarism and practicing our paraphrasing skills Bluebonnet Reading logs were due on January 20 for students in grades 3, 4, and 5. Students have been casting their votes this week for the best book for kids in the state of Texas. Results to be revealed in Februrary. Next week students who read 10 or more Bluebonnet books will be coming to a private party in the library- our first annual BlueBonnet Bash. I'm looking forward to this exclusive event with our hard working readers! We also had our first author visit on January 18. Vuthy Kuon visited with students in grades 3, 4, and 5 and shared his inspiring story of why he became a children's book author, illustrator and writer. We have been open for about 6 weeks now and things are happening in the library! Weekly lessons and checkouts, Book Fair, Pumpkin Patch and more! Check out the slideshow below to see what's been going on! If you completed the Fort Bend County Summer Reading Program, now's your time to shine! Kinder, First, and Second Grades- Thursday, Sept. 8 Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grades- Friday, Sept. 9 Go to your classroom like normal at arrival. Your teacher will send you down after the bell so you can be on announcements. Can't wait to see all your smiling faces!

My name is Susie Davis and I am so excited to be your librarian as we open our amazing new school. I'm entering my 10th year in education, but my first as a librarian, which has been a life long dream. I've lived here in Katy for the past 7 years with my husband Justin and our son Jett who will be starting kindergarten at Jenks. Over that time I taught at both Stanley and Davidson Elementary. I cannot wait for everyone to come and see our new school- it really is unlike any school you've seen before. Please come by and tell me hi when you meet your teacher on August 18. I'm looking forward to an incredible year with lots of reading! |
